Give Me 5: What Are Five Causes You Wholly Believe In and Why?

Give Me 5: What Are Five Causes You Wholly Believe In and Why?

Give Me 5, Cause

~Barbarella

Here are the FIVE causes I wholly believe in and why:

{One}

Cause:  Compassion International

Effect:  Compassion International is an organization which exists and functions as a Christian child advocacy ministry that frees children from spiritual, financial, social and physical poverty.  Additionally, it enables them to grow into responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

I’m blessed to be a Compassion International Advocate and Blogger.

{Two}

Cause:  MANNA Worldwide

Effect:  MANNA Worldwide is a Christian ministry organization founded in 1991 by Bruce and Pam O’Neal.  It focuses on caring for children in poverty worldwide. They strategically fight GLOBAL GIANTS such as disease, widespread poverty, rampant issues with reading and writing skills, and spiritual vacancy.

My husband and I have partnered with MANNA since its inception.

{Three}

Cause:  LIFT Ministries (our ministry)

Effect:  LIFT Ministries is a high-energy, heart changing, life experience where true friendships are made and students are inspired to know, love and follow Jesus.  To date LIFT has ministered to nearly 60,000 students nationwide. LIFT has seen more than 8,000 of those students come to know Christ as their personal Savior and hundreds surrender their lives to serve in full-time ministry.

{Four}

Cause:  OneVerse

Effect:  The mission of OneVerse is to speed up Scripture translation.  We (I’m a OneVerse partner and blogger) long to get the Word of God into the hands of those without God’s Word through Great Commission partnerships.

{Five}

Cause:  St. Jude Children’s Hospital

Effect:  As some of you know, I’m a nurse by profession. Long before the diploma landed in my hand, however, I longed to care for children.  Although I’m not practicing nursing now, we believe in and support St. Jude.

  “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Ranked one of the best pediatric cancer hospitals in the country, St. Jude is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children.”

So, there you have it ~ five causes my family and I wholly believe in and why.

Please, take a moment and share yours in the comment section below.  I can’t wait to read what you share as well as be introduced to new and incredible causes.

    definitely something to ponder… I am all about putting wells in Africa at this point, and international adoptions. Only two causes, but good enough! Barbara

    I struggle to answer this, and not because I don’t have five causes …hard to explain in a comment…it sounds like great groups you are working with, Stefanie…five: 1. World Vision; 2. Real Options (used to be CPC) working with women and helping them keep their babies instead of abortion; also offers post-abortion counseling; 3. Intervarsity Christian Fellowship; 4. Samaritan’s Purse; 5. Missions in different countries through different groups…Blessings and His peace to you :)

    • StefanieYoungBrown

      What fantastic causes!! My husband and I are HUGE foreign missions supporters. I love “Real Options” because I was adopted when I could have been aborted. Thank you for such amazing causes.

    Oh shoot! I have a bunch of blog posts to catch up on now, because I kept getting this email that said a new blog post awaits…but it didn’t have any content in the email. I thought that meant to be patient, that a new blog post would be written soon haha. Not used to Mail Chimp yet, but glad I clicked on the email today and saw this :)

    So for my causes. Causes are a BIG thing to me. I love to give back and I typically support causes that land right in my lap or in my community.

    1. Alley Cat Allies (www.alleycat.org) . This is a big one I am currently working with and blogging about at my website these days (weliveinspired.com, if you don’t mind me saying). I never planned on getting involved with this, but I am an animal lover and recently a cat colony appeared behind my backyard. Several homeless kittens, some not doing so well even. I have to help the helpless…it is just who I am . I can’t even watch those Animal abuse commercials…anyways, I have been working with some of the feral cats in my neighborhood and the ones that were young I have gotten a few adopted either by myself or others (after socializing them). I was shocked at how no one in our neighborhood cared about them, and how I overheard some people talking about shooting them, getting rid of them, people dropping them off somewhere , etc. I am featuring a feral cat of the week that I am helping or have helped in the past at my blog to raise awareness for abandoned or mistreated animals and give people info on how they can help control this problem in their area. I will be doing a prize giveaway on October 16th, which is National Feral Cat Day.

    2. American Cancer Society- Most namely the Relay for life. I got involved with this way back in middle school and have continued to help in to my 30′s. I have lost MANY family and friends due to cancer and my mom is a survivor, so it hits close to home.

    3. The Make a Wish foundation: This helps terminally ill children to have one of their big wishes in life fulfilled. My very first major loss to cancer, was my best friend in highschool. The first person who reached out to the “new girl” who had just moved here (that was me). She got brain cancer and did end up going to be with the Lord at age 15 , but the make a wish foundation sent her on a big trip to Disneyworld before she passed and she had so much fun. (She grew up poor). I have supported that cause ever since.

    4. The Salvation Army-namely the angel tree : Mom taught us to give to the poor since we were tiny, so when I was little I would put my allowance in the bell ringer boxes at Christmas. In my adult years our family would pick several children off the local “angel tree” and we buy them the presents or clothes they want for Christmas that their parents can’t afford to get them. I also like to donate food, canned good drives, turkey at Thanksgiving, and clothing of mine.

    5. The prayer shawl ministry. I will be devoting a whole section of my blog to this so other women can join me in this ministry if they wish, but it started with a local church chapter for Mom and I. We basically knit shawls for people of any age- kids to elderly , that are suffering , ill, lonely, etc. and we send prayers to them with it and tell them we care about them. We do this to random people in the community or across the globe that we hear are hurting.

    Sorry this is so long!! It’s just something I am passionate about and will be blogging alot about in the future too :)

    Thanks for posting this Stephanie….we also sponsored a couple of different children from Compassion when I was growing up. That is a great cause!!

    • StefanieYoungBrown

      How incredible!!! I love and appreciate your passion for your causes. Please, NEVER apologize for the length of writing. It, again, demonstrates your passion. I love that!!
      Thank you!

    You inspire. Wow. Thank you for sharing this. Thank you for spurring us all on to action in Jesus’ name! …

    You asked us to share in the comments… One of my favorites is http://www.ViBellaJewelry.com. Haitian women make the most beautiful jewelry, and it is sold here in the states. I’m on the board for Vi Bella, and have been so blessed by personally meeting some of the artists who make these beautiful creations.

    • StefanieYoungBrown

      Thank you, Jennifer! Trust me, I’ll be checking out ViBella Jewely. That’s a new ministry to me:)) I appreciate you sharing it with me.

  • carolvanderwoude

    You have a great list. For many years I was investing in Awana, helping children become familiar with the Bible and memorize verses. Other areas we invest in are: Wycliffe Bible Translators, Campus Crusade.
    Life issues tug at my heart so other areas are: Americans United for Life (they do great work developing/supporting legislation to protect the unborn. Also, Women Speak for Themselves (they speak out for religious freedom, right of conscience.

    • StefanieYoungBrown

      Thank you!! Yes, I’m very familiar with AWANA. In fact, the CEO, Jack Egger is a dear friend of ours and spoke at our church this weekend. What an amazing ministry! Oh, and Bible translation… Praise God for that!!
      I appreciate you sharing.
