{Why I Had No Clue Who I Was…}
I had no clue who I was because I wasn’t asking the source of who I am.
Instead…
I asked friends and family, neighbors and acquaintances. I relied upon opinion and conjecture, perceptions and thoughts.
Some words were uplifting and encouraging, all of which I appreciated. Others defeated and deflated me, leaving me lacking ~ greatly in need. Unfortunately, my need turned to void, void caused me to speculate, my speculation caused me to doubt which ended in me having no clue who I was.
My people pleasing nature worked in favor of my clueless living. You need me to be funny, I’m funny. You need me to be an attentive listener, I’m all ears. You need me to believe, sell me any line ~ I’m buying. You need me to agree far beyond what I’m comfortable, I’m your girl. Why? I was in need of a clue, searching avidly for it, but coming up clueless.
Even as I write, I feel what I once felt.
Now, after passing what I understand to be the halfway mark of my life (stark realization), a changed life I live. By His power, my clueless living has given way to understanding. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I do claim to have a clue or two.
Clue #1: I’m His daughter…
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba,Father.” ~ Romans 8:14,15 (NIV)
Clue #2: I am a new person…
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
Clue #3: I am His masterpiece…
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” ~ Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Clue #4: I am His friend…
“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” ~ John 15:15 (NKJV)
Clue #5: I am His heir, a joint heir with Christ…
“But if we are children, we are also heirs. We are God’s heirs and fellow heirs with Christ, if we really suffer with him so that we can also be glorified with him.” ~ Romans 8:17 (CEB)
Clue #6: I am a conqueror…
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” ~ Romans 8:37 (ESV)
Clue #7: I am chosen…
“My dear friends, God loves you, and we know he has chosen you to be his people.” 1 Thessalonians 1:4 (CEV)
Clue #8: I am the salt of the earth…
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste (its strength, its quality), how can its saltness be restored? It is not good for anything any longer but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men.” ~ Matthew 5:13 (AMP)
Clue #9: I can do all things through Christ…
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” ~ Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
Clue #10: I am His temple…
“Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” ~ 1 Corinthians 3:16 (NASB)
Getting a clue doesn’t come from a roll of the dice. Nor does it come from wishful or positive thinking. It comes from the infallible, indisputable, holy written word. An intentional acceptance of His word gave me the clues I needed to realize WHO I was.
I’m not aimless.
I’m not worthless.
I’m not clueless.
I’m His.
