Top Ten Ways to Shock and Surprise Your Children (in a good way)…

{10}  Plan a surprise date…

  • Think ~ What does your child love to do?  Where do they love to go?  What have they been asking to do?  Make your decision, then begin planning your course.
  • After deciding what and where, decide when. Choose a day during the school week.  After sharing your idea with school leadership and planning accordingly, surprise your child by picking them up early from school.
  • Have 2-3 hints about where you are going ready for your child to read.  It will be fun listening to them try to figure out where you are going and what you are going to do.
  • While traveling to your destination, take a moment or two to specifically affirm your child.  Tell them what you love about them, how you appreciate them, how proud you are of them and that this day is for them.
  • Focus on them ~ no phone, no text, etc…

{9}  Have a DIY day…

  • Determine what project(s) you and your child(ren) would like to tackle. Pinterest is a GREAT place to find tons of DIY fun.
  • Decide what day, morning or afternoon, you want to use as your DIY day.
  • Plan ahead, acquiring all the materials you need for each project chosen.
  • Once your projects are complete, display them, take photographs of them, share them.

{8}  Spontaneous Photo Scavenger Hunt…

  • Take an hour or so and put together a list of scavenger hunt objects, maybe 15-20.
  • If you already have a camera, use that.  I suggest, if possible, you buy your child a small disposable camera.
  • Set yourselves a time limit and an area you plan to cover.
  • Hit the road, capturing as many items as you can.
  • Develop them and have your child(ren) make a collage to post and share.

{7}  Free Friday…

  • Stay in pajamas all day…
  • Eat breakfast foods for dinner…
  • Use Super-Hero names to refer to each other all day, using towels or sheets as capes…
  • Watch holiday movies on a non-holiday day…
  • Plan a sleep over Thursday night ~ build a fort, pop a tent, snuggle all together in mommy and daddy’s bed…

{6}  Throw a Surprise Surprise Party…

  • Chose a character quality you love and admire in your child or a recent accomplishment or honor which they’ve received.
  • Throw a surprise party to celebrate your child.  Have fun special treats, invite friends and family, play games, etc…

{5}  Have a picnic dinner in the family room floor…

  • Hot dogs
  • Hamburgers
  • Chips
  • Baked beans
  • Potato salad
  • With all the fixin’s

{4}  Turn Your Kitchen Into A Restaurant…

  • Plan a menu of your child’s/children’s favorite foods
  • Act as Host
  • Serve as Server
  • Take their order
  • Provide dinner entertainment
  • Have the table formerly set

{3}  Re-do, rearrange or upgrade your child’s/children’s room so when they come home from school, they have a NEW place to sleep…

{2}  Plan, save and surprise your child(ren) with a trip to their most desired amusement park such as Disneyland or Disney World.  Don’t tell them where you are going until you are loading the car.  Talk about SURPRISE!!

{1}  Declare (your child’s name) Day…

On this day, within reason, do whatever you child wants to do.  Boy, won’t that be a surprise!
